The Problem
Cooling-system failure is one of the leading causes of mechanical breakdown. Over time, antifreeze/coolant can degrade, causing a loss in it's protective qualities. When the pH level is altered, the corrosion process begins. This causes rust, sludge and scale buildup in the hoses, radiator, water pump, heater core and engine. The traditional radiator "drain-and-fill" service leaves approximately 50% of the contaminated coolant behind. The residue formed can interrupt the flow of coolant throughout the system. This can cause the engine to run hot and allow corrosion deposits to deteriorate the metal surfaces. Left untreated, overheating problems, internal leaks and possible system failure can occur causing costly repairs.

The Remedy
An experience technician, using a specially designed machine, will perform a Cooling-System Flush Service. First, MOC Cooling-System Cleaner/Flush is added to the old coolant and circulated throughout the entire cooling system, suspending rust, sludge and scale. The vehicle's cooling system is then attached to the machine which uses a pumping action to flush the entire system. During the next step, contaminates along with the used coolant are extracted. The system is then filled with new coolant. Don't Ignore Your Car's Cooling System

Car cooling systems are practically trouble-free. Changing coolant and flushing the system occasionally are the only requirements. Because of its trouble-free nature it is all to easy an item to ignore. The cooling system contains one of the most important wear-fighting items on the car - the thermostat.

The Thermostat
A properly functioning thermostat of the correct heat range is absolutely essential. The thermostat forces your engine to heat up faster. The faster it heats up the less it will wear. When the engine is cold the thermostat remains closed, blocking the flow of coolant from the radiator to the engine and allowing the engine to heat up more rapidly. Once the desired temperature is reached (as determined by the temperature rating of the thermostat), the thermostat opens and coolant is allowed to circulate throughout the engine. This opening and closing keeps the coolant at the desired temperature from that point on. Most thermostats are set to keep the coolant hot, at 195+ degrees Fahrenheit.

This advice should be followed for older cars also. The thermostat recommended by the manufacturer should always be used. No car should run without a thermostat.

Lukewarm heater air probably means the thermostat is stuck open. An engine that is constantly over heating may indicate the thermostat is stuck closed.
